I’ve always been fascinated by percussion instruments, which play an essential role in the history of music.
They are among the oldest instruments, made from simple materials such as wood or skin.
This accessibility makes them universal.
Beyond that, they are at the heart of rhythm, the language that brings people together, moves them and accompanies so many important moments in cultures the world over.
Playing percussion is also a very direct, almost instinctive physical experience.
And the wealth of instruments – from djembe to maracas – reflects the diversity of musical traditions around the world.
It’s a living, deeply human universe that I love exploring!
